Tata Motors Overtakes Mahindra & Hyundai in October 2025 Sales
Tata Motors has once again proved its dominance in India’s fast-growing passenger vehicle market. According to the latest Vahan data for October 2025, Tata Motors has claimed the second position in retail sales, outperforming both Mahindra and Hyundai by a significant margin.
The automaker recorded 74,705 retail units during the month, selling 7,905 more units than Mahindra and 9,660 more than Hyundai, solidifying its stronghold in the Indian market.
Massive 81% Growth for Tata Motors in October
October turned out to be a blockbuster month for Tata Motors. The brand registered an impressive 81% month-on-month sales growth, driven largely by the festive season demand and attractive GST-linked price cuts of up to ₹1.55 lakh across its passenger vehicle range.
As per industry data, Tata’s sales rose sharply from 38,286 units in August and 41,151 units in September to 74,705 units in October — a clear sign of strong consumer response.
This surge has helped Tata Motors retain its No. 2 position, just behind the long-time leader Maruti Suzuki.
Hyundai and Mahindra See Strong Growth Too
While Tata Motors emerged as the clear winner, both Mahindra and Hyundai also posted solid sales growth in October.
- Mahindra recorded a 77% increase, with sales rising from 37,659 units in September to 66,800 units in October.
- Hyundai, on the other hand, saw an 81% jump, with sales climbing from 35,812 units to 65,045 units in the same period.
Despite their strong performance, both brands fell short of overtaking Tata Motors’ robust festive season momentum.
Festive Offers and New Launches Drive Tata’s Success
Industry experts believe that Tata Motors’ strong retail network, festive discounts, and new model demand played a major role in this sales surge. The Nexon, Punch, and Safari continue to be the top-selling models, while Tata’s growing EV lineup has also contributed significantly to its sales numbers.
The price reductions due to GST adjustments and special festive finance offers gave Tata Motors an extra edge, making its vehicles more attractive to cost-conscious buyers.
Tata’s Consistent Growth Momentum
This is the second consecutive month that Tata Motors has retained the No. 2 spot in India’s passenger vehicle market — a strong indication of its upward growth trend.
With multiple new launches planned for early 2026, including updates to its EV and SUV range, Tata Motors appears well-positioned to strengthen its position even further.
Final Take
Tata Motors’ impressive October 2025 performance marks another milestone in its journey toward market leadership. The brand’s combination of value pricing, strong SUV portfolio, and expanding EV lineup has clearly resonated with Indian buyers.
If Tata maintains this momentum, it could continue to challenge Hyundai and Mahindra through the next quarter — and get even closer to Maruti Suzuki’s long-held top spot in the coming years.
